Gameboy 4MB, 32KB FRAM Flash Cart (Ultra low power)

(1 customer review)

$29.00$34.00 USD

This re-programmable 4MB flash cartridge is MBC5 only which allows you to play most of the later released Gameboy/Gameboy Colour games including Shantae, Perfect Dark, Metal Gear Solid, etc. Also features rumble if you purchase that option. Designed and made in Australia.

Will be loaded with LSDJ Stable 9.2.L. Need to flash a game on this cart? Make sure to grab our GBxCart Flasher. Other flashers might not be able to write the full 4MB as there are 2x 2MB flash chips so auto detection will fail. In FlashGBX, make sure to manually select the “insideGadgets 4MB (2 x 2MB)” option.

Includes a clear reproduction GB cart shell (separately). Looking for other colour cart shells? Check our DMG or GBC high quality cart shell listings.

This cart works on every Gameboy system – GB, MGB, GBC, GBA, GBA SP and the Game Boy Player. Games that require more than 4MB of ROM won’t work.

8KB Ram Lock
Bridge this pad for games like DK2/DK3 that can corrupt save data.

Pokemon Pinball save issue
With Pokemon Pinball we found that it didn’t use the first bank of the save chip, it was the 2nd or 3rd 8KB bank but the original game was limited to 8KB.

You have 2 choices:

1. Bridge the top pads with solder to lock the save chip to 8KB. If you flash other games, you may have to de-solder this bridge.

2. Make a backup of the save file you wish to restore. Open a hex editor, copy all the contents and paste it into a new file 4 times so the file size will be 32KB and then restore that file. In FlashGBX, change the save type from 8KB to 32KB before the backup or restore.

I got this so I could have my dream, a physical copy of Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 Ultimate, and the board is great. It took some fiddling with the GBX settings to get it to write properly, and even then it had trouble writing the whole thing in one go, but if you keep trying it’ll eventually go through. That said, if you take the 30-45 minutes to get it working properly, it’s worth it. Works great on real hardware, both GBA and Gameboy Player. The only other complaint is the shoddy shell it comes in, which crumbled when I tried to unscrew it. I was planning on swapping the shell anyway, and would’ve thrown away the old one, so it wasn’t a big deal, but keep that in mind if you ever intend to open the shell. Shells are super cheap, so you may want to have a spare on hand.
